Incorporating a vision of Christianity put forward by theologian, scientist, and philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg, the church has been home to many people with diverse views, celebrating its 'Unity in Variety'. Believing that spiritual growth is akin to a 'spiritual birthing' toward heavenly and Christly consciousness, this church presents the Bible as the story of that inner journey toward the becoming of our new self. The church holds that the highest form of worship is to live a useful life to the world at large. The Church of the Holy City seeks to foster that vision of usefulness within this city.
